If you are on a round the world cruise how do you keep track of time? How often do you reset the time on your watch?

Dirty Politics

Another reason why I hate politics! Kevin Rudd was elected by the people and the people should have been given the opportunity to re-elect him or reject him. And that opportunity would have presented itself sooner rather than later as an election is due anytime in the next 8 months! While I am happy that Australia has it's first woman Prime Minister, it appears that Julia Gillard has snatched the position rather than being chosen by the people or in effect "earning" it.

You still have my vote Kevin!

Work Life Balance

An interesting take on the subject.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXM7MpoVAD0

Can you ever have work-life balance whether you run your business or work for a corporation? If you work for a corporation, is it easier if you work for a large macro-managed one compared to a smaller micro-managed organisation? Is it better to be in a government job which offers you job security and regular working hours compared to the hurly burly world of corporate life? Is it the flexibility of working hours or the option to work from home? Does the need for work-life balance become more pronounced or relevant once you have kids?

In every scenario you win some, you lose some but are you happy with what you lose?

Is achieving work life balance akin to attaining Nirvana?

Formula 1 - 2010 Season so far

While I set up my blog last year, I have not done justice to it and I hope with this piece I’ll get serious about it!

The 2010 F1 season has so far turned out to be interesting more due to rain, the new points system and a couple of racing incidents than any exciting racing itself. In the past pit stop strategy, especially if there are 2 or three stops, added to the excitement and uncertainty and kept the teams guessing as to when their competitors would pit and for how long. Now it is extremely bland with mainly 1 stop to change tyres.

The new points system has shaken things up a fair bit due to the larger gap between 1st and 2nd and also 1st and 10th. Currently it is a hot battle between Webber, Vettel, Hamilton, Button and Alonso with Kubica, Massa & Rosberg not far behind. If Michael Schumacher gets a couple of wins under his belt and a few more top 5 finishes he could be in the running too this year but I feel he will treat most of this year more as an R&D exercise and will be top of the charts next year.

It is also interesting to watch 4 champions competing in this season and would have been extremely fascinating if Kimi Raikkonen had stayed on this year and Jacques Villeneuve had managed to get a drive making it 6 in all!

Mark Webber has been the revelation of this season and he is truly living up to his potential. He finally seems to have ridden himself of the bad luck plaguing him for so many years, seemingly capped off by the horrific accident he had towards the end of 2008 while riding in his own charity event in Tasmania.

Among the teams Force India have shown tremendous improvement over last year and are now seen fairly regularly in Q3 and are ahead of established teams like Williams, Sauber and Toro Rosso in the constructors standings. Vijay Mallya’s golden touch seems to have brushed off on Force India too. If the maiden Indian GP does get off the ground next year, Force India will be a brilliant ambassador for the sport in India as a team which is currently a serious contender for points and not just a back marker!!

With only 7 out of 19 races run so far the 2010 season is wide open and one hopes that the weather continues to play a part in keeping the excitement alive.
